We offer physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Your doctor will determine which types of therapy will benefit you the most. In all cases, we focus on helping you regain the strength, mobility and function you need to live a fulfilling life.
If you receive our services in the hospital, we encourage you to invite caregivers who will be assisting you at home to be part of your therapy sessions. This will allow them to learn how to best help you and increase their confidence.
When possible, we suggest you bring a change of clothes to the hospital for your therapy sessions. You’re likely to do best when you have your own clothes and are wearing shoes, and if necessary, your glasses.
Although we make every effort to minimize your discomfort, you may have some soreness and tiredness after your therapy sessions. This is part of our efforts to help you function to the best of your abilities.
Several types of therapists and rehabilitation specialists may be involved in your care:
- Physiatrist: a doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and will manage your rehabilitation care. This includes coordinating care with other doctors, therapists and practitioners.
- Occupational therapists: focus on helping you do activities of daily living, including tasks at home and work
- Physical therapists: focus on improving your strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and mobility
- Recreational therapists: focus on your quality of life, hobbies and interests as part of your recovery plan
- Speech-language pathologists: help improve speech, communication, cognition and swallowing
