Orthopedic Trauma Program
If you have fallen, twisted an ankle or suffered a sports injury, you may need the care of an orthopedic trauma team. Our orthopedic trauma care team specializes in treating acute fractures and injuries to bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments throughout the entire body. We focus on the treatment of fractured bones and joint realignment to help you recover from your injury and get you back to normal activities.
We are a Level 2 Trauma Center that covers the entire Inland North West performing over 1,000 emergency orthopedic surgeries annually. Our team consists of five orthopedic trauma surgeons that includes two orthopedic traumatologists and three orthopedic trauma hospitalists.
We use surgical and non-surgical treatment for bone and soft tissue injuries. Minor fractures and dislocations can be treated with casts, braces, and splints for a healthy recovery.
Some traumatic injuries may require surgical procedures, which can include:
- Fractures
- Joint Replacements (hip, knee, shoulder)
- Emergency hand, wrist, elbow repair/surgery
- Emergency foot & ankle repair/surgery
- Muscle flaps and skin grafts for complicated wounds
- Soft tissue repair
Orthopedic trauma usually requires a long recovery period, depending on your injury. Minor injuries can take a few weeks, but arm, wrist or ankle injuries may take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. Hip injuries can take the longest to heal and require special monitoring throughout your recovery. Most people recovering from orthopedic trauma should get a post-treatment care, including physical therapy, to avoid becoming stiff and sore from inactivity.
