Our Nursing Philosophy and Professional Practice Model
Our nursing philosophy statement reflects the unique theoretical underpinnings of our approach to nursing care and professional development.
Aligned with Providence’s mission, vision and values, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center’s professional nursing staff is dedicated to the promotion of health and wellness as the basis for nursing practice. Our nursing staff delivers patient care with the highest level of ethics, judgment, confidentiality, and respect for human rights, human dignity, and diversity.
It is our belief that a holistic and caring environment nurtures and supports patients on their journey towards self-care. We believe that nursing excellence begins with an environment that allows nurses to develop lasting relationships based on faith, hope, and trust. We believe that we are responsible for illuminating the path and competently leading the way.
Our nursing professional practice model
PHCMC uses our unique nursing model to guide our practice. This model is based on our Core Values, the Providence promise, the PHCMC nursing philosophy, and two nursing theories:
- Sustaining humanistic-altruistic values by practice of loving-kindness, compassion, and equanimity with self/others.
- Being authentically present, enabling faith/hope/belief system; honoring subjective inner life/world of self/others.
- Being sensitive to self and others by cultivating own spiritual practices, beyond ego self to transpersonal presence.
- Developing and sustaining loving, trusting-caring relationships.
- Allowing for expression of positive and negative feelings – authentically listening to another person’s story.
- Creatively problem-solving-’solution-seeking’ through caring process; full use of self and artistry of caring-healing practices via use of all ways of knowing/being/doing/becoming.
- Engaging in transpersonal teaching and learning within context of caring relationship; staying within other’s frame of reference-shift toward coaching model for expanded health/wellness.
- Creating a healing environment at all levels; subtle environment for energetic authentic caring presence.
