Lit Searches are professional level searches of research databases and indexes to find the best practices or evidence to support patient care, diagnosis, treatment, policy-making and other hospital activities.
Information prescriptions
These are consumer level searches requested by physicians or nurses for their patients or requested by patients or health care consumers themselves. These are pulled from a variety of trusted resources and are specifically written to 5th to 7th grade reading level to reach the majority of users reading and understanding levels.
Interlibrary loans (ILL)
To access books and articles not owned by the library we participate in reciprocal sharing groups across the US and Canada. We have to abide by loaning library and copyright restrictions on ordering but we will contact you if there are problems. $15.00 charge for non-St. Patrick related requests.
Table of contents
Table of Contents and e-Table of Contents are provided as published to subscribed journals either in print or via email. This is an easy way for providers and clinicians to stay abreast on the latest published research articles in their field.
Public computers
We have 10 computers that are available to staff to work on HealthStream, Kronos, APE, accessing email, research and other job related work. They are also available to the public for research, communicating with family and friends about their loved ones, applying for jobs and school assignments.
Magazine “recycling”
This is simply a way to increase the variety of magazines found in the hospital waiting areas. Donations of recent magazines are accepted and redistributed all around the hospital.
Recreational reading collection
This collection is a non-cataloged continually changing “collection” of used paperback and hardback books donated to TLC by patients, staff and volunteers of SPH. The collection is shelved generally by genre and ideally provides an option for patients and their families who are tired of TV or need “something to pass the time”. Library staff is available to take books to patient rooms upon request.
