  • Free meal before, during or after volunteer shift: Volunteer identification badges issued by Providence and current cafeteria card issued by Volunteer Services entitles volunteers to a free meal (restrictions apply).
  • Medical center events: Volunteers, in addition to all volunteer-specific events, are welcome to attend various activities during the year, including special events, fairs and activities, Foundation events, summertime ice cream socials, and much more.

Individuals, ages 15 and older, of all backgrounds and abilities who want to help others may become volunteers. The process takes approximately 5-6 weeks and varies by time of year. An initial interview matches each volunteer's interests, talents and schedule to the medical center's needs. The process begins with the online application, followed by a full application sent by email, a conversation in person or by phone, Caregiver Health instructions (includes a Providence paid TB test and background check for those 18 and over).  Following clearance by Caregiver Health, new volunteers are eligible to attend orientation where they will learn our Mission and core values, experience the paths of travel within the medical center and finalize their specific assignment. A choice of uniform is provided as well at Orientation, the fee for which is $25.00. Orientation is offered on the first Wednesday and the third Thursday of each month from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. by invitation only and subject to change.

The list of requirements includes:

  • Volunteers must be at least 15 years old.
