Orthopedics
Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center’s orthopedic and sports medicine specialists provide state-of-the-art care and treatment for orthopedic conditions through minimally invasive procedures, comprehensive recovery processes and orthopedic rehabilitation. Dedicated to helping you enjoy life without the burden of joint or back pain, the orthopedic department provides these services in a comfortable and compassionate environment.
By combining medical expertise and advanced treatment technologies, our orthopedic physicians help treat injuries that affect a patient’s quality of life. These types of conditions include:
- Spinal disorders
- Arthritis pain
- Back pain
- Joint pain
- Pain from strains
- Sprains
Along with conservative medical strategies that include medication, exercise and physical therapy, our orthopedic surgeons also perform the most advanced, minimally invasive surgeries for any injury to the bones, joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles. These include carpal tunnel release, knee and hip replacement and arthroplasty for joints.
These new techniques can repair damage through a small incision, which means less pain and a shorter recovery. With these excellent outcomes, our patients typically are able to leave the hospital and start the rehabilitation process sooner, allowing them to recover quickly and get back to normal life activities.
With today’s advanced surgical techniques and technologies, even the most painful and damaged joints can be replaced easily. After surgery, our patients often resume activities that they once thought would be impossible.
We perform the following joint replacement surgeries:
- Total and partial knee replacement
- Total hip replacement
- Total shoulder and reverse total shoulder replacement
- Total ankle replacement
- Joint revision procedures
In partial joint replacement surgery, the damaged ends of the bones and cartilage are replaced with implants that are shaped to restore more natural joint movement and function.
In total joint replacement, an orthopedic surgeon removes the damaged bone while preserving healthy parts of the bone, ligaments and muscle. The damaged bone is replaced with a highly polished prosthesis (artificial joint), which prevents the bones from rubbing together, creating a smooth joint.

Many of their innovative spine surgical techniques feature minimally invasive anterior, posterior and lateral approaches. These techniques can be used to treat a wide-range of conditions including:
- Arthritic spine conditions resulting in back and/or leg pain (numbness and weakness)
- Herniated and ruptured discs
- Spinal stenosis
- Spinal instability
- Neck problems causing pain, numbness or weakness
- Conditions affecting the spine as a result of osteoporosis
Some of our doctors serve as team physicians for community high schools and local colleges, helping to prevent or to treat the orthopedic and sports injuries sustained by our young athletes. Some of our physicians also teach athletic trainers, school nurses, paramedic technicians and resident doctors in the art of sports medicine to ensure that, while injury prevention remains the focus, any sports-related injuries that do occur are recognized quickly and treated appropriately to minimize damage and recovery time.
