Emergency Care
When sudden and severe illnesses afflict you and your family, Mission Hospital’s Emergency Department is ready to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. One of only three trauma centers in Orange County, Mission Hospital’s board-certified ER physicians, trauma surgeons, nurses and specialty staff are trained to respond quickly to any emergency medical situation.
It is important for patients to understand that emergency departments are for true emergencies. If you don’t know whether your emergency is life-threatening or not, take the safe approach and come in. However, if you don’t need this high level of care, consider options such as more affordable urgent care or a visit to your general practice physician.
The hospital has contracted with Mission Viejo Emergency Medical Associates to provide physician services in the Emergency Department. These physicians are independent contractors, not employees of the hospital, who contract separately with healthcare insurers and healthcare plans. As a result, they may not be in the same networks as the hospital. If you have any questions regarding whether these physicians are covered by your insurance, you should contact your insurance provider directly. To contact the ER group contracted to our hospital, please call 949-364-1400 ext. 7476.
As a full-service emergency department, Mission Hospital is prepared to address even the most critical cases immediately. A verified Level II Pediatric and Adult Trauma Center, our department is equipped with everything necessary to treat life-threatening illnesses such as strokes or heart attacks around the clock.
In order to provide patients with the precise and life-saving care they need, our emergency department beds all have monitoring technology, which provide us with critical clinical information to accurately assess the health of our patients and their personal medical needs.
Whether you require care from our Laguna Beach or Mission Viejo hospital, our emergency department works closely with paramedics out in the field to direct patients to the most appropriate hospital.
Our community emergency care department helps us provide exceptional medical guidance in an emergency situation. It is also designated as receiving center that evaluates patients for further treatment, as well as a training site for new paramedics.
As a Level II Trauma Center, Mission Hospital is prepared to address the most critical cases immediately, maintaining everything necessary to treat life-threatening injuries around-the-clock. In order to assess and determine the emergent need, a rapid assessment nurse evaluates each patient as soon as they enter through the doors of the emergency department. Our emergency nurses are specialized in emergency care and are dedicated to helping patients and their families through illnesses and injuries. The emergency nurses work closely with physicians to provide the appropriate care for the patient, as well as keeping them informed and supported throughout the patient’s emergency department visit.
We understand the stress and uncertainty that comes with visiting an emergency department. Because of this, we staff ambassadors who act as liaisons and resources to guide patients and families through this time of need.
These specially trained professionals provide information, answer questions, and communicate among caregivers to help achieve treatment goals and deliver optimum care.
