Welcome to the Petaluma Valley Hospital Volunteer Services

Are you looking for the kind of personal fulfillment that can only come from serving others? Can you offer comfort and support to patients and their loved ones? Are you a “people person” with multi-tasking skills?

We invite you to become part of our team as a hospital volunteer! Volunteer opportunities cover a wide range of opportunities – from supporting the admissions staff in the main hospital lobby, to direct patient contact – Surgical/ICU waiting room – the Emergency department – to non-clinical support in ancillary offices that support patient care.

How To Join Our Volunteer Team

Before you get started with the application process, please know that:

  • Student volunteers must be in high school and have parental permission.
  • We do request a minimum commitment of 50 hours of service per year.
  • Our volunteer program does not offer job training, internships, or medical shadowing programs.

The following volunteer assignments are samples of what may be available:

Escort

  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors
  • Provide escort service for patients being admitted, discharged, or needing to go to the clinical areas for procedure or visiting
  • Support the admissions staff
  • Deliver flowers, newspapers, etc.

Patient comfort cart

  • Provide magazines and books to patients, visitors and lobby areas throughout the hospital
  • Offer a smiling face and conversation as comfort to patients

Patient care areas

  • Assist nursing personnel with non-medical tasks
  • Provide a warm and supportive atmosphere for patients, families, and visitors

Departmental support throughout the hospital

  • Filing
  • Preparing mailings
  • Copying
