Covenant School of Nursing
Covenant School of Nursing (formerly Methodist Hospital School of Nursing) is located in Lubbock, Texas. Founded in 1918, Covenant School of Nursing is the oldest nursing school in the South Plains and has graduated more than 5,200 nurses.
We are committed to producing highly skilled nurses who share our passion and commitment to patients and the nursing profession. Throughout our full-time, accredited diploma program, students receive both classroom training and faculty guided hands-on experiences in both lab and clinical settings. Our supportive learning environment ensures that every student receives the guidance and encouragement he or she needs to succeed as a registered nurse.
In keeping with the Mission of Covenant Health, as expressions of God’s healing love, the Mission of the School of Nursing provides a quality nursing education founded on evidenced-based practices, integration of nursing skills and concepts of caring for the whole person. We are steadfast in serving all with competent beginning nurse generalists.
Covenant School of Nursing faculty believes nursing is a discipline dedicated to the promotion of optimum health for the individual, family and community. Nursing requires the integration of knowledge and skills from biological, psychological and sociological sciences with evidenced-based nursing practice and concepts of caring for the individual as a whole person. The patient's needs and care requirements are met through the use of the nursing process of assessment, analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The nurse collaborates with the patient, family and healthcare team to formulate a plan of care to meet the needs across the lifespan and health-illness continuum.
Covenant School of Nursing provides a correlation between scientific concepts and evidence-based nursing practice. Our curriculum facilitates the student's development of cognitive, psychomotor and affective abilities to function as a nurse generalist capable of critical thinking, independent judgment and self-direction. The School of Nursing promotes learning through a curriculum based on Lenburg's Competency Outcomes and a variety of learning experiences which progress from simple to complex.
When you’re training to become a nurse, there’s simply no substitute for hands-on experience. At Covenant School of Nursing, you’ll not only learn in the classroom – you’ll participate in skill-oriented labs and work in clinical situations at nearly 20 different health care facilities in the Lubbock area. In fact, you’ll begin working directly with patients early in your training during the 64-week program.
Our program is a full-time, 64-week hospital-based diploma program that follows the completion of eight specific prerequisite courses at an accredited college or university of your choice. Guided by a Master’s prepared nursing faculty, students who successfully complete our program are eligible for licensure as a registered nurse (RN). An LVN-RN track is also offered to licensed vocational nurses (LVN) and licensed practical nurses (LPN) for completion of their registered nursing education.
To graduate from Covenant School of Nursing, students must be able to fully attend and successfully complete all classroom, lab and clinical components of each required nursing course. They must also sit for the National Council Licensure Examination-RN (NCLEX-RN) licensing exam.
Graduates of CSON are then streamlined into the nursing program at Lubbock Christian University (LCU) to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This transition takes place approximately three months after graduation from CSON and takes two to three semesters to complete. All students must pass the National Council Licensure Examination-RN (NCLEX-RN) before entering LCU. Covenant encourages graduates to complete higher levels of education by receiving their Master's (MSN), Family Practitioner License, or even PhD in Nursing. Learn more about our partnership with LCU.
