Events planned to honor National Cancer Survivors Day in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — For millions of people living with cancer, National Cancer Survivors Day is a treasured celebration of life observed annually on the first Sunday in June. It is also a day to acknowledge the contributions of their families, friends, and health care providers, as well as those engaged in cancer research.

This year, National Cancer Survivors Day is June 1, and the Alaska Cancer Partnership is collaborating with a variety of partners — including the Providence Cancer Center — to highlight events across the state.

Some events include:

Petersburg: Beat the Odds cancer support group will gather with survivors and community members for lunch.

Juneau: Cancer Connection is celebrating cancer survivors and their loved ones with a group walk along the waterfront followed by a celebration with music, food, and fun!

Anchorage and statewide:

  • Providence Cancer Center will have virtual gentle chair yoga at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, and an oncology cooking class at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4. Both events are open to everyone.
  • Anchorage-based nonprofit Us TOO is holding in-person and virtual support group meetings for anyone diagnosed with prostate or testicular cancer, along with their caregivers.
  • Alaska Run for Women is holding the 33rd annual run/walk to raise money for and awareness of breast cancer and women’s health. Join in-person on University of Alaska Anchorage trails or participate virtually from anywhere. Consider joining a team!
  • Alaska Black Caucus is hosting the Corene Davis Graham Alaska Cancer Telethon.

Fairbanks: Join Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska (BCDC) in Fairbanks for their annual Walk & Wine fundraiser along the Chena River.

More information about the Alaska Cancer Partnership and National Cancer Survivors Day events is available at the Alaska Cancer Partnership Cancer Surivors Day website.
