Celebrating our 2024 Values In Action (VIA) Honorees

Get to know the North Puget Sound caregivers recognized for exemplifying our values.

Each year Providence honors and recognizes caregivers with the Values In Action (VIA) awards. Caregivers nominated for this award set the highest standard for all caregivers by modeling our Mission and values.

This year, over 40 North Puget Sound (NPS) caregivers were nominated for the 2024 Values in Action awards, with five chosen as honorees:

  • Eiman Elnour, cultural health navigator, Providence Medical Group NW
  • Andrew Greavesnight-shift chaplain, Providence Everett
  • Kevin Gullis, support services supervisor, Providence Everett
  • Susan Milleracute care ASAP nurse, Providence Regional Medical Center Everett (PRMCE)
  • Amanda Urban, patient advocate, Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse (PICAA)

Recently, these five 2024 North Puget Sound VIA honorees were celebrated with a luncheon. In addition, Amanda Urban received special recognition for being selected as a system Values in Action honoree —one of just 17 from across the Providence family of organizations.

Eiman Elnour's journey from Sudan to the U.S. and her role as a cultural health navigator at PMG NW is truly inspiring.

Medical background and family support: Eiman earned a medical degree in Sudan and moved to the U.S. in 2006. She paused her career to support her family as they settled in New York and later moved to Snohomish County when her husband got a job at Boeing.

Joining Providence Medical Group: Once her children were settled, Eiman joined Providence Medical Group in 2022 as a cultural navigator, using her experiences to support pregnant women, especially those new to the U.S.

Community impact and volunteering: In addition to her role, Eiman participates in the Providence HealthEquity Fellowship program and volunteers to help Sudanese immigrant communities navigate the U.S. health care system.

Andrew Greaves, a night-shift chaplain at Providence Everett, is recognized for his compassionate presence with patients and families during difficult times.

Personal challenges and spiritual calling: Andrew's early life challenges led him to seek spiritual meaning and attend seminary, where he found fulfillment in clinical pastoral education, ultimately pursuing a health care ministry to support people during significant moments in their lives.

Alignment with Providence's Mission: Andrew resonates with Providence's Mission to care for the poor and vulnerable, drawing from his own experiences of vulnerability, and appreciates the organization's support for marginalized communities, including the LGBTQIA community.

Support and well-being: Andrew finds joy through his supportive community of caregivers and draws inspiration from resilient patients. He maintains his well-being with family support and various activities, such as walking his dog, cross-stitching and SCUBA diving.

Kevin Gulle finds fulfillment in his role as a support services supervisor at Providence Everett, where he enjoys the dynamic nature of his job and the strong community connection.

Career growth and dedication: Kevin started his career at Providence in 2002 as a cook and has taken on new challenges, eventually rising to a supervisory position through his dedication and compassion.

Embracing the Mission: Kevin has embraced the Providence Mission by treating everyone with dignity and respect, finding reward in both the impact of his team's work and the relationships he has built.

Recognition and personal growth: Kevin's peers nominated him for the Values In Action award due to his dedication, and he hopes his story inspires others to foster an environment of respect and excellence.

Susan "Suzie" Miller, acute care ASAP nurse at PRMCE, uses her ICU experience to respond to patients in sudden decline, ensuring they receive appropriate clinical support.

Early life and career journey: Suzie was drawn to supporting people in vulnerable times early in life, inspired by helping a chronically ill family member. She began as a CNA at Providence in 2017 and advanced to an RN, then ICU RN, and now serves as an ASAP nurse.

Commitment to easing the way: Suzie emphasizes the importance of "easing the way" for patients and families by communicating clearly and providing reassurance. She also supports her colleagues by managing her reactions and offering emotional support.

Finding purpose and self-care: Suzie finds joy in connecting with patients and colleagues and values the impact she has on their lives. She practices self-care through humor, connecting with people, and taking time to decompress after work.

Amanda Urban is honored for her compassionate care and support for abuse victims as a patient advocate at Providence’s Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse (PICAA).

Role and Responsibilities: Amanda Urban provides compassionate care to abuse victims and their families, ensuring they receive the necessary support while medical and judicial teams process evidence to stop the abuse through the justice system.

Background and Motivation: Drawn to her work by a deep sense of compassion, Amanda started as a preschool teacher and later pursued a degree in psychology, leading her to volunteer and eventually work at Dawson Place.

Support and Wellbeing: To maintain her mental health and sustain her demanding role, Amanda relies on the support of the PICAA team, personal therapy, her husband, yoga, nature, and gratitude for places of great beauty.

About the Values In Action Awards

Each year, caregivers, core leaders, medical staff, volunteers, and board members nominate their peers for living our values: compassion, dignity, justice, excellence and integrity.

Five local honorees are selected by a committee of their peers based on the quality of examples included in their nomination and the nominee’s length of service. These honorees are also automatically entered into a second selection process for the opportunity to represent their region as a system-level awardee and are eligible for additional recognition.
