Grief Support Services

Providence Grief Support Services offers grief counseling services for adults, teens and children. Short-term grief support and education is available to individuals and families following the death of a significant person.

Snohomish County Crisis Line

Snohomish County Crisis Services offers an array of support services available to everyone in Snohomish County, Washington. Telephone services provide immediate, confidential assistance for people in emotional distress and in need of help. For immediate support call or text 9-8-8.

Grief Support for Adults

As your family moves through this time together, please know that Grief Support Services staff will be a resource for you. For the families of our hospice patients, we offer support over the next 13 months following the passing of your loved one. As a part of our services, you can expect the following:

  • A check-in phone call from a Grief Support team member between 2-5 weeks
  • Initial mailing packet which includes our contact information, support group offerings, and other grief literature in approximately 3 weeks
  • Ongoing quarterly grief support mailings with various literature to support you on your grief journey
  • Invites for Spring and Winter Memorial Events
  • Grief support group and 1:1 counseling for all eligible family members interested at no cost

*Timeframe of services are based on the date of your loved one’s passing.

For community members who have experienced the loss of a loved one, we offer short-term individual bereavement support sessions with one of our grief counselors. We also offer some support groups and memorial events that are open to community members.

Grief Support Groups for Adults

Please complete the Adult Support Group Interest Form if you wish to receive more detailed information about our support group offerings listed below. A counselor will prescreen your form and contact you as groups form. If there are no support group available at the time of your request, we will automatically add you to our waitlist and contact you soon as the support group within your interest becomes available. A virtual or in-person 6-week support group series for those who have experienced the loss of a spouse/partner, parent, sibling, or other close relationship. This group is offered quarterly during Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.

An in-person support group using a variety of creative modalities to explore the fundamentals of grief focusing on resilience and strength-based perspectives.  This group will meet for a 4–6-week group cycle based on interest. Parent loss, spousal loss, sibling loss, and loss of significant individual/s are welcome.

A separate support group (Expression of Grief Group-Child Loss) will be hosted for individuals who experienced a loss of a child ages 0-18.

A virtual or in-person support group series with focus on story, memory and coping skills using writing to express and move through grief.

The Journey Through Grief Book Club is a place where we can gather and reflect on our experiences in grief through the reading of insightful books and literature about grief and loss. A few times a year, we will select a book and talk about its themes so we can read, learn and support one another in the community. This gathering is a safe space to discuss and reflect on the themes of the book as well as our experiences in grief.

Grief Support for Kids and Teens

Providence Hospice of Snohomish County-Pediatric Grief Support Program serves any grieving child or teens needing grief support in Snohomish County.

We offer short-term grief support on a space available basis for children and teens who have experienced the death of an important person in their life.

At this time, we are currently not running any child or teen groups.

Throughout the year we offer seasonal events for grieving families to come together as a community in remembrance of loved ones who have died.

For counselors and educators, we can provide a grief curriculum for you to use if you are interested in running a grief support group for students at your school.

Camp Erin® - Snohomish County is a free, weekend (overnight) bereavement camp for youth who are grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. Children and teens ages 6 to 18 attend a weekend camp experience that combines grief education and emotional support with fun, traditional camp activities. Camp Erin is led by professional staff and caring trained volunteers. Campers are provided with a safe environment to explore their grief, learn essential coping skills, and make friends with peers who are also grieving.
