Why Choose Us for Your Cancer Care?
Often, a breast surgeon is the first member of the breast care team that you will meet if you have been diagnosed with breast cancer or have a breast condition. Our breast surgeons work closely with other members of your care team to accurately diagnose your breast condition. Our surgeons will recommend treatment options and a care plan that gives you the best possible health and cosmetic outcomes.

Breast reconstructive surgery is used to restore the look and feel of the breast after breast surgery. Our plastic and reconstructive surgeon works alongside our breast oncology surgeons from the time of your diagnosis, and throughout your treatment. This ensures that your reconstruction is safe and coordinated with other cancer treatments.
Dr. Allison C. Nauta is one of only a few surgeons in the Pacific Northwest who is board-certified in plastic surgery, has completed a microsurgery fellowship and performs a high volume of breast micro-reconstructive and DIEP flap breast surgeries.
Providence Cancer Institute offers a full range of breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, such as:
- Breast implants: Tissue expanders and implants reconstruction may be done in one or two stages. Expanders are placed under the chest muscle to make room for implants. These are then removed to make room for permanent implants. Implants are made from saline or silicone.
- Autologous tissue reconstruction (including DIEP Flap): This method is also referred to as tissue transfer. It uses tissue from elsewhere in your body to replace the breast tissue that was removed during surgery. The replacement tissue often comes from the abdomen.
- Revision breast reconstruction: The goal of corrective (or “revision”) surgery is to fix problems that occurred during or after breast reconstruction. To improve your quality of life or health we can use a variety of techniques. These include mastopexy, fat grafting, changing implant position, implant exchange, conversion to autologous and more.
For patients who are candidates for a lumpectomy, oncoplastic surgery may be a treatment option. With oncoplastic surgery, a lumpectomy and plastic surgery are often done at the same time. The goal is to remove the tumor and to prevent appearance problems with the breast after lumpectomy. Our plastic surgeon will reshape the breast tissue after your breast surgeon has removed the tumor.
Patients who do not undergo breast reconstruction surgery can also use custom-made silicone breast prosthesis. Prosthesis can aid in providing symmetry after surgery. Our surgeon and our team at Transitions: An Appearance Center can help find prosthesis and bras that fit you best.
Providence offers surgical and nonsurgical procedures to enhance or reshape specific parts of your body. We offer a variety of common cosmetic procedures related to breast augmentation, body contouring and revisional procedures. We are excited to continue expanding these services over the next few months.
