Why choose us?

Providence Brain Tumor Center focuses on patient education and quality-of-life considerations. We aim to provide patients with expert care and the best possible experience. Our multidisciplinary team also does clinical research and attends monthly tumor board meetings to review cases. This means our patients benefit from the most up-to-date knowledge and treatment options in the field.

Our diverse care team includes experienced neurologists, a neuro-oncologist, neurointerventionalists and neurosurgeons. These specialists from Providence Brain & Spine Institute work closely with Providence Cancer Institute physicians, as well as nurses and rehab specialists. And we help coordinate each step in the care process between these teams.

At Providence Brain Tumor Center, we create individualized treatment plans to make sure patients, families, and caregivers understand their options. Our Center offers coordinated, compassionate care, including functional neurosurgery for epilepsy treatment, neuro-endocrinology for pituitary disorders, stereotactic laser ablation for brain tumors and Gamma Knife Perfexion.

Our Center offers many treatment options. For small tumors that don’t cause symptoms, we can often observe them with regular imaging (MRI, CT, etc.). These tumors may also be treated with medications or radiation therapy. Larger tumors usually need surgery, either by endoscopy or open craniotomy.

Our team combines intraoperative CT scanning, intraoperative MRI scanning and the Medtronic Visualase™ Thermal Therapy System. These technologies help us perform the procedure safely and accurately.

  • Endoscopic approaches
  • Open Craniotomy - Our Center is very experienced with minimally invasive techniques, which can provide safer, more effective tumor removal.
  • Fluorescence
  • Gamma Knife Perfexion for stereotactic radiosurgery – Used on smaller tumors, this high-dose radiation treatment focuses on tumors and reduces spread to surrounding brain tissue.
  • Stereotactic laser ablation (1.5 tesla high-field strength intraoperative MRI) – Also called Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT), this treatment is another option for smaller tumors, especially those deep in the brain. LITT uses focused light from a laser to heat and destroy tumors. A specially trained neurosurgeon performs this procedure within an MRI scanner. This provides real-time imaging to guide the laser to the target tissue. LITT may also be used on smaller brain tumors, for side effects of radiation therapy, and/or on tumors that grow despite radiation and chemotherapy.
  • Brain Biopsy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Clinical trials
  • Targeted molecular profiling that can give your doctor clues on which treatment your tumor might best respond to.
