Chapel and Spiritual Care
The chaplains at Providence Alaska Medical Center are here 24 hours a day to serve the emotional and spiritual needs of our patients and their families. You do not need to have certain religious beliefs to visit our chapel or to ask one of our chaplains to visit your hospital room. We are simply here to listen, offer encouragement and support no matter your religious, cultural or spiritual beliefs.
Whether you want someone to pray for you or simply want a quiet place to meditate, we provide a range of services to meet all your spiritual, emotional and social needs. We’re happy to even just sit with you and talk about the meaning and purpose of life.
You’re welcome to visit Our Lady of Providence Chapel at any time or ask your nurse to page us at 88-4673 (HOPE). Family members, friends of patients and Providence staff are also welcome to reach out to us for support and comfort whenever needed.
Our Lady of Providence Chapel is located near the main lobby on the first floor of the hospital. Anyone can visit the chapel 24 hours a day for quiet reflection, meditation and prayer.
Catholic Mass is celebrated at the chapel daily at 11:30 a.m. Sunday through Friday.
Regardless of your faith or background, we serve as a source of encouragement and to provide comfort. Our spiritual care services are many and include:
- Active listening
- Assistance managing important decisions regarding your treatment, life after treatment or advance directive
- Crisis ministry
- Prayer and blessings
- Referrals for support groups, patient education and bereavement services
- Sacramental ministry
- Worship experiences
Providence Alaska Medical Center offers a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program for ministers and seminarians who are interested in becoming chaplains or spiritual care providers. CPE is a practical, hands-on theological education that combines ministry with a curriculum designed to help students meet the spiritual needs of those in their care.
