Children’s Emergency Care
If your child is injured or becomes suddenly ill, you want the best care right away. Children’s Emergency Care is designed to do just that and more. We not only provide the highest levels of care for every situation; we also understand that kids aren’t just little adults. They need special care to be comfortable in an emergency situation. No one knows your child better than you, and we welcome you to take part in the decisions about their care.
We treat more pediatric emergency cases than any center in Alaska, with more than 13,000 visits in 2018. But we don’t stop there. We add an essential quality — caring. We achieved an outstanding Press Ganey score for compassionate care in the Alaska region.

All of our emergency physicians are board certified and have completed pediatric training.

Our nurses have completed the Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course (ENPC) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training.
Family-centered care
We recognize and respect your family’s values, beliefs and cultural background. We keep you informed at every step in your child’s care and encourage your participation.
Certified Child Life Specialists
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends these professionals be available to help reduce anxiety in children and help families understand and cope with the child’s illness or injury. Our certified child life specialist works full time in our center. Learn more about the Child Life Program.
Examinations, tests and other procedures can be stressful, and it helps to know how long they will take. Each room has a wall chart that explains the average time for procedures such as X-rays, MRIs, CT scans and others. Your team will also let you know the time it will take to complete your child’s work-up.
Your team will keep you updated on how your child’s care is progressing and will let you know as soon as possible if he or she will need to be admitted into the hospital.
In addition to our emergency care, we can arrange for the following services:
- Case management
- Referral to a pediatric specialist
- Social services
