Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation
When you have a serious injury or condition, recovery can be challenging. But you don’t have to go on this journey alone. At Providence, we have neuroscience experts, nationally recognized programs and advanced technology to help restore function so you can live as independently as possible. We believe the compassionate care we provide makes a difference.
Why Choose Us for Your Acute Rehabilitation?
As our patient, you seamlessly transition from the hospital to acute inpatient rehabilitation, where you have access to the therapies you need for a successful recovery – all under one roof. Here are three reasons so many patients choose us for their acute rehabilitation each year:
About Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation
Patients may benefit greatly from a brief stay in the hospital for acute rehabilitation after treatment for a serious injury or condition, such as stroke, brain cancer surgery or limb amputation. During acute inpatient rehabilitation, your team coaches and supports you as you get used to performing the activities of daily life. These might include dressing, walking, preparing food and bathing. A typical stay in acute inpatient rehabilitation is just over a week, but some patients stay for up to three weeks. Before you move to outpatient therapy, your team will make sure you’re equipped for the next phase of your recovery. In some cases, your team may even conduct a home visit to make sure you’ll be safe.
Benefits
The goal of acute inpatient rehabilitation is to restore physical and cognitive abilities and to help patients live as independently as possible. Some therapies, such as physical therapy, can help strengthen muscles and improve balance and coordination. An occupational therapist may guide a patient through daily activities, while a speech therapist helps sharpen thinking skills, communication and swallowing. At Providence, physiatrists – doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation – oversee this comprehensive care.
