Electrophysiology

When you’re a patient at Providence, we treat your heart with the care it deserves. We provide expert electrophysiology treatments for your cardiac rhythm disorder, along with the post-care support you need to fully recover.

Why Choose Us for Your Electrophysiology Treatment?

As our patient, you know you’re getting access to leading-edge innovations and treatments that lead to world-class outcomes. Here are three reasons more than 21,000 patients choose us for their electrophysiology treatment each year:

Our board-certified electrophysiologists are experts in diagnosing and treating heart rhythm abnormalities. They work closely with a care team that may include interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, heart failure specialists and imaging specialists. Nurse navigators are also available to help you understand the underlying causes of heart disease. Our dietitians help you make heart-healthy food choices, and our exercise physiologists can help you keep living life to the fullest.

Providence offers options and hope to patients seeking the most advanced therapies to treat their heart conditions. We are at the forefront of advances in electrophysiology treatment, including micro pacemakers and a groundbreaking new therapy: pulsed field ablation (PFA).

PFA is a minimally invasive treatment for atrial fibrillation (AFib) that is safer, faster and more effective than standard ablation techniques. Our leadership in innovation helps us provide better heart care – and a better life – for you and your loved ones.

When you need electrophysiology treatment, your doctor gets to know you personally. Your individualized care plan addresses your specific needs, lifestyle and quality of life. If you have a rhythm monitoring device, our care team offers 24/7 coverage, so you’re always looked after.

About Electrophysiology

Electrophysiology procedures involve the use of special tools and techniques to find the source of a problem with the heart’s electrical signals, or rhythm. Your plan may include medications or procedures like catheter ablation to restore the heart’s normal rhythm and help you feel better.

Benefits

Your electrophysiology treatment can help improve your cardiac rhythm abnormalities, palpitations and dizziness. You may spend less time in the hospital and can increase your physical activity. As a result, you may enjoy a better quality of life – and potentially a longer life.

Conditions Treated with Electrophysiology

We treat a wide range of heart conditions, from cardiac arrest to arrhythmia to heart failure. We’re here for you with electrophysiology to treat heart conditions that include:

Electrophysiology Treatments We Offer

Your cardiovascular team works with you to design the most effective treatment plan to fit your health needs, lifestyle and goals. Below, you’ll find different options for electrophysiology treatment.

Pacemakers

Pacemakers use electricity to manage your irregular heartbeat and help it stay at a regular pace. Every year, nearly 10,000 patients see our expert electrophysiologists for pacemaker and cardio defibrillator implants. Most patients go home the same day as the procedure, so you can recover comfortably while still receiving dedicated outreach from your care team.

Pulsed field ablation (PFA)

Providence is a leader in the new, groundbreaking procedure for AFib called pulsed field ablation (PFA). PFA offers a new option for patients who have not had success with other treatments. This innovative technique uses pulsed electrical fields to selectively disable the abnormal heart cells causing arrhythmias.

Our cardiologists consider it a true game-changer because PFA is safer, quicker and more effective compared to standard ablation treatments. The procedure itself takes about 30-45 minutes, compared to one or two hours for standard cardiac ablation. This means our patients need less anesthesia and typically go home after just a few hours.

Other treatments

If you need other types of heart care, we also offer the following electrophysiology treatments:

  • Cardiac ablation – including cryoablation, pulmonary vein isolation, radiofrequency catheter ablation
  • Cardiac resynchronization therapy
  • Cardioversion
  • ICD (implantable cardio defibrillator)

What Is PFA (Pulsed Field Ablation)?

Two electrophysiologists at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett in Washington explain this new, cutting-edge treatment for AFib.

How PFA Helps Our AFib Patients

“This is a paradigm shift for the management of our AFib patients, allowing procedures to be done more easily, significantly faster and safer, with excellent outcomes. We’re continuing a long list of firsts in cardiac electrophysiology in the U.S. and the Los Angeles Area.”
