Virtual Frequently Asked Questions
It’s convenient, face-to face care, wherever you are. Sit down with one of our board-certified providers through secure video chat on your smartphone, tablet or computer. Talk with them about your symptoms, and they can diagnose and treat minor medical concerns you’re dealing with. They can also prescribe medication or lab work as needed.
Anyone can use ExpressCare Virtual in Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Washington. You just need access to a laptop, tablet or smartphone that’s connected to the Internet. Just head to virtual.providence.org or download the Providence App to get started. We welcome patients with or without insurance. You don’t need to be a Providence patient.
Yes, they can! Patients of all ages can use ExpressCare Virtual, but parents/guardians need to start the process. If you’re a parent/guardian, set up your account first at virtual.providence.org or the Providence App, and then you can add your child’s information. Your child will show as a “minor dependent” on your account. Make sure your child is present for the visit so the provider can evaluate what’s wrong.
Yes – after diagnosing your concern and coming up with a treatment plan, your caregiver can call in a prescription to your local pharmacy. Of course, that’s in line with state laws and what’s medically appropriate. While we don’t prescribe or refill controlled medications (narcotic pain medications, opioids, benzodiazepines, schedule medications, etc.), we can evaluate your medical condition. You will need to talk to your prescribing provider for controlled medication refills.
We are available from:
7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Alaska Time (AKT)
8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Pacific Time (PT)
9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Mountain Time (MT)
10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Central Time (CT)
Yes, you’ll have to set up an account first, but it only takes a minute or two. Once it’s all set up, you can use your account log-in if you need another virtual visit in the future.
ExpressCare Virtual providers are Providence nurse practitioners and physician assistants who also work in our local, neighborhood clinics who are dedicated to deliver your compassionate care.
Your provider will design a treatment plan to ease your symptoms after you’ve talked and been evaluated. While antibiotics are effective for bacterial infections, for common viral illnesses like colds, flu or mono, they don’t do anything. If you take antibiotics when they aren’t needed, it can lead to antibiotic resistance – which could mean that antibiotics don’t work as well when you really need them.
Yes, you’ll receive an after-visit summary through a secure email after your visit. If you have a MyChart account, you will also receive an after-visit summary in your MyChart inbox.
ExpressCare Virtual pricing is simple.

ExpressCare has COVID-19 testing available for people experiencing symptoms and those who have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. If you are concerned you have COVID-19, an ExpressCare Virtual provider can evaluate you, offer a treatment plan, and determine whether testing would be appropriate. If an ExpressCare clinic is near you, the provider can refer you for testing, if needed. Start your visit now.
Don’t have insurance? The self-pay rate for a COVID-19 screening visit start at $99, and the lab fees will vary based on testing ordered.
* Providence caregivers, if you have been exposed to COVID-19, please notify your Core Leader and Caregiver Health, who will help you with next steps for your care.
