At Providence North Everett Vascular Surgery, we offer treatment for varicose and spider veins in the convenience of the clinic. The procedures are done in less than two hours and patients are back on their feet with minimum down time. Patients benefit from a customized treatment plan which may include thermal ablation using laser light, microambulatory phlebectomy or sclerotherapy. These treatments typically cause minimal discomfort and patients can resume normal activities immediately.

The specialists at Providence North Everett Vascular Surgery customize a treatment to fit your needs. Treatments vary, depending on the results of your initial screening. Sometimes, additional diagnostic tests, such as ultrasound, are necessary to determine the extent of vein damage.
Treatment might include thermal ablation using laser light or radiofrequency energy, microambulatory phlebectomy or sclerotherapy. Often, a combination of these treatments is necessary.

During this treatment, a small laser fiber is inserted into the damaged vein. The highly-concentrated laser light damages the vein wall and seals it shut. In time, the body absorbs the unused vein and it’s no longer visible. The procedure is done in the office under local anesthesia. It typically takes about an hour. After the procedure, patients wear a support stocking.

We now offer an exciting new technique for treating varicose veins. VenaSeal™ uses a proprietary medical adhesive delivered through the affected vein to seal it closed. Clinical studies conducted in Europe and the United States have demonstrated the procedure to be safe and effective. This approach does not involve thermal energy, eliminating the need for anesthetic and multiple needle sticks and avoiding patient discomfort. An added benefit: not having to wear compression hose after treatment.

In this treatment for larger varicose veins, the doctor makes small punctures (.125-.25 inch) in the skin over a bulging vein. Then, small pieces of vein are removed through the punctures. The punctures are closed with sutures. This procedure is done in the office under local anesthesia.

In sclerotherapy, the doctor injects medication into the vein using a tiny needle. The medication damages the vein, causing it to collapse and shut. In time, the vein becomes less visible and eventually disappears. You may need just one, or several sessions, depending upon the type and number of veins being treated. This procedure can be done in less than an hour.

You’ll experience minimal discomfort and can usually resume normal activities immediately. You may have some bruising and discoloration. Bruising normally disappears within 2-4 weeks. Discoloration almost always fades, but it can take several months.

Varicose veins appear to be dark purple or blue, twisted or bulgy, and feel very heavy or painful. Spider veins look like thin red lines or weblike network of blood vessels. At Providence Medical Group Vascular Surgery in North Everett, we can treat both in an office visit.

Medical insurance typically covers the treatment of venous disease. We recommend that you contact your insurance company directly if you have questions about your insurance coverage or benefits. Cosmetic treatment for varicose veins is not covered by insurance. The initial consultation fee is $40.00 and is applied to your total treatment costs.

Treatments typically cause minimal discomfort and after most procedures you can walk immediately and get back to your daily activities.

All procedures are done in our clinic as an outpatient visit.

Many patients notice an immediate relief of symptoms such as pain, leg heaviness and fatigue. The full benefits of the procedure may take one to two weeks. Individual results may vary. 

We recommend treatment during the fall or winter months to minimize sun exposure of the treated area, but we can treat you at any time.
