Providence Medical-Forensic Services
Providence Medical-Forensic Services
The Providence Medical-Forensic program offers comprehensive, trauma-informed nursing care to individuals who have experienced sexual, physical, or psychological violence. We believe that everyone in our community has the right to feel safe and to be treated with care and respect.
Our team of highly trained Forensic Nurses will meet with you to ensure that you are receiving the highest quality medical care and can offer several options including evidence collection, STI and pregnancy prophylaxis medications, forensic photography, assistance reporting to police, and connection to local resources.
Our Forensic Nurses are available to provide specialty care to individuals who have experienced:
- Sexual assault
- Physical violence
- Strangulation
- Sex or labor trafficking
- Abuse
- Neglect
These medical exams identify injuries, collect evidence, and assess your overall health after a physical or sexual assault. Medical exam expenses may be covered by the Oregon state Sexual Assault Victims’ Emergency Medical Response Fund or the Oregon state Crime Victims’ Compensation Program.
Staff will dispatch an advocate from a local agency who will either meet you in the ED or connect with you over the phone. Advocates are volunteers who are specially trained to assist you through this difficult time. You may also bring a support person with you.
You do not need to report to the police to be seen by a Forensic Nurse Examiner and your options for reporting will be discussed with you during your visit.
