Providence Extended Care - Alaska

Welcome to Providence Extended Care, an innovative approach to elder care.

Providence Extended Care provides long-term skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services in a setting that is truly a home. Imagine access to all the quality medical services of a typical nursing facility in the setting of a traditional home – with a hearth, a shared dining room and kitchen, courtyard/patio, free in-room cable TV, 96 private bedrooms and bathrooms.

This fresh philosophy isn’t just about architecture. In our homes, residents are more actively involved in all facets of life, including planning menus and activities, picking furnishings and decor, and controlling their own schedules. Even their direct caregivers offer a different kind of support, working in the home to build strong relationships while providing for elders’ health needs and personal care.

Our homes, which we call cottages, are about LIFE. The décor is warm and cheerful. Residents and care givers gather around the dining table to enjoy good food and company. Resident’s participate to the fullest extent in planning cottage activities and meals.

Laughter and hugs are shared between those who live and those who work here. The warmth of home fills us with a sense of belonging.

Life Wellness team

Our life-wellness team is made up of professionals from the fields of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Activity Therapy. The team partners with the cottage staff to create a home where each resident lives a life that meets their maximum potential for independence and well-being.

Team members will provide skilled therapy as ordered by a physician, will provide a structured functional maintenance program (ambulation, exercise group, range of motion), address positioning needs, participate in interdisciplinary teams and provide activity care planning and events.

Spiritual Care and The Chapel of Compassion

Caring for the human spirit is as important as caring for the body. Spiritual Care staff and community Chaplains provide a ministry of spiritual support, counseling, religious programs and reflection. Spiritual Care staff coordinates with the entire care team to identify and focus on spiritual issues which impact a resident’s wellbeing.

Religious services for various denominations are held each Sunday. These services are held at the Chapel of Compassion in The Commons building. Bible studies and other spiritual care groups are scheduled and may be hosted within each cottage. Residents from any cottage are welcome to attend and staff will assist residents to the location as desired. Our Chaplains will work with you to provide support during your stay; residents are encouraged to maintain connections with their own personal church community when possible.

At Providence, we know that health care can be an unexpected expense and that the cost of health care services can be a deciding factor for many people as they plan for care. Providence supports health care pricing transparency and tools that help patients and consumers evaluate what care is best for them and any related financial costs.
