Providence St. Francis house is a safe, controlled-access apartment building nestled among the trees next to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Residents enjoy a park-like setting with plenty of walking paths and beautiful raised garden beds.

We were founded in 1998 and are operated by Providence. Our HUD-subsidized apartments were built and designed to give seniors (age 62 and older) an affordable and welcoming place to call home.

Providence St. Francis house is pleased to offer on-site service coordination to help residents age in place.

In order to submit an application for housing at Providence St. Francis House, you must meet the following initial eligibility requirements. Other eligibility criteria for housing will be verified when an application reaches the top of the wait list (e.g. criminal background check, student status, etc.).

  • At the time of application, the head of household, spouse or co-head of household must be 62 years of age or older
  • Maximum household size for a one-bedroom apartment is 2 persons
  • Applicants must disclose their social security numbers at the time of application, and will be required to provide documentation during the initial eligibility process
  • Household income must be at or below HUD’s financial criteria for receiving rental assistance, which is 50% of the Area Median Income for Thurston County, WA. HUD income limits as of July 5, 2024 are as follows:
    • 1-Person Household: $39,450
    • 2-Person Household: $45,100

Please note that we will run a tenant screening report when qualified applicants reach the top of the wait list. There is no charge to applicants for running the report, and the report is usable only for properties owned and managed by Providence. For information about our screening criteria, refer to the Tenant Selection Plan. If you have completed a comprehensive reusable tenant screening report at another property, you may choose to share that with us, but you are not required to do so.

Providence St. Francis House is a four-story controlled-access apartment building with elevator access. We have 59 one-bedroom apartments. Each unit is approximately 535 square feet in size.

We are able to accommodate a variety of special needs including mobility, vision, and hearing impairments. Accessible units may be equipped with roll-in showers, wider doorways, open vanities, lower light switches and peep holes, and additional grab bars in the bathrooms. In addition, we are able to provide wireless doorbells with visible alerts and safety range burners on request.

Our expansive grounds make this a beautiful place to live, with plenty of walking paths for daily strolls and a gazebo and covered patio. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you’ll feel right at home here.

We also offer on-site support service coordination to help residents identify and access local resources. Our staff can also advocate for residents who need assistance.

One small pet is allowed with a pet deposit.

Activities

There are several ongoing tenants lead activities to help you socialize with your neighbors and get the most out of living at Providence St. Francis House. Regularly scheduled activities include:

  • Raised-bed gardening
  • Activities in the surrounding community

Getting Started

Interested in living at Providence St. Francis House? Follow these steps to check your eligibility, review some important information about applying for and living in HUD subsidized housing and complete your application.

Completed applications must be printed, signed and mailed to the management office of the House(s) you’re applying to. Applicants who appear to meet all eligibility requirements will be added to the wait list and will be contacted when their application nears the top.

The St. Francis House housing wait list is currently closed due to a large volume of applications in process. We are not accepting new applications at this time, and do not anticipate re-opening the wait list until 2026. Other Providence properties are accepting applications, and we encourage you to apply for those you are eligible for and interested in.

You may contact the office at any time to check on the status of your application. If your phone number or address changes, or you have a change in household composition, income, or other circumstances that may affect your application, you must contact the office to update information on your application.

Getting around town is easy thanks to the bus stop at the front entrance to Providence St. Francis House. Once aboard a bus, it’s a short trip to grocery stores, banks, restaurants, coffee shops or movie theaters.

There’s no shortage of medical services nearby to meet all of your health and wellness needs. Providence St. Peter Hospital is right next door, and there are several pharmacies, specialty care and primary care doctors offices nearby.

We are also close to a public library, a U.S. Post Office and several places of worship for your spiritual needs.
